Ugli Fruit

Ugli Fruit

The ugli fruit is a citrus hybrid of grapefruit and tangerine that is grown exclusively in Jamaica, where it was discovered growing wild early in the twentieth century. They are sometimes sold in Britain as Jamaican oranges.

Not an attractive looking fruit, the thick knobbly skin peels away easily to reveal sweet juicy segments. They are used in much the same way as oranges - good juiced, in salads and cakes and as an interesting version of marmalade.
