Gouda fondue

Gouda fondue

Ingredients

  • 50 g butter
  • 25 g flour
  • 300 ml milk
  • 500 g gouda cheese, grated
  • 175 ml white wine
  • 150 ml schnapps
  • large pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
  • black pepper
  • crusty bread, to serve

Method

1. Heat the butter in a heavy-based saucepan. Mix in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring.

2. Gradually add in the milk, stirring as you do so. Cook, stirring, until the mixture thickens.

3. Add in the Gouda, white wine, schnapps and nutmeg. Season with salt and freshly ground pepper. Cook, stirring, until the Gouda melts.

4. Serve at once with crusty bread.
