Steamed Glutinous Rice

Steamed Glutinous Rice

  • 500 g glutinous rice
  • 1 litres water
  • 1 tsp vegetable oil


1. Wash the rice several times until the water runs clear. This helps get rid of any extra starch.

2. Place the washed rice in a shallow bowl and pour over enough water to cover. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil.

3. Put the bowl in a bamboo basket and place over a pan of boiling water. Steam for about 30 minutes, until the rice softens and has fluffed up. You might need to add a little more water to the pan sitting below the steamer so there's enough steam to cook the rice. Serve straight away. This kind of rice is also good when cooked in a rice cooker.
