Walnut Treacle Tart

Walnuts add a delicious flavour to a traditional British tart in Lotte Duncan's simple recipe

Walnut Treacle Tart

Ingredients

  • 225 g shortcrust pastry
  • 8 tbsp golden syrup
  • juice and grated zest of 1/2 a lemons
  • 25 g breadcrumbs
  • 55 g chopped walnuts
  • a pinch of ground ginger
  • custard, to serve

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 190ÂșC/gas 5.

2. Roll out the pastry and use it to line a 20cm greased pie plate.

3. Mix the golden syrup and lemon juice and zest together and spread half over the pastry case. Mix the breadcrumbs, walnuts and ginger together and scatter over the top. Add the rest of the syrup and smooth over.

3. Bake the tart in the oven for 25 minutes and serve hot or cold with custard.
